Kinde charts Joy Division’s Influences. Image via.I found this gem via a Wired article that landed in the Language Trap (this trap is super good reading if you’re any sort of word nerd like me).
Ideas Illustrated is a brilliant data visualization blog written by Mike Kinde, a Manager of Research and Analytics at Minacs Marketing Solutions. In the post picked up by Wired and the Language trap, Kinde codes passages of texts using different colors to show the origins of words in the passage. A quick glance at the passages demonstrates the dominance of old English in our lexicon (although a look at a medical passage seriously ups the presence of Latin originating words).
Kinde isn’t stuck on words though and the blog contains fascinating data visualizations for things like legos, earnings and unemployment by college major, and the influence and connections of the band Joy Division.
