Trap of the Day: SXSW

When folks refer to SXSW, they’re often only referring to the music portion of what is actually a massive, citywide music, film, and technology conference that takes over Austin, Texas for an entire week.

The week starts out with SXSW Interactive and SXSW film, and only moves into the music festival by midweek. We’ve created three distinct traps to showcase the different components of SXSW, so whatever your passion, you can keep up with the action from afar.

SXSW has been known to launch careers and pay local resident’s rents (one weekend of from-Brooklyn subletters easily covered a month’s rent my last year at UT).

Pro tip, you don’t need to drop a dime to see great music (although getting on the Interactive and Film action will cost you a pretty penny no matter what). On top of many daytime free official SXSW showcases (with freebies ranging from beer to breakfast tacos) there’s the ditch the fest movement. Which promises plenty of bands and free parties happening in houses, parking lots, backyards, and random DIY stages all over town. Including GayBiGayGay, a Sunday party full of drag, food, and music on Sunday, after most of the official SXSW events are over.

Oh and in case you didn’t know, Trapit’s been nominated for the SXSW Accelerator’s Most Innovative Web Startup category and MC Hammer will be there
